At Aly Swims Cornwall, we believe that open-water swimming is more than just a sport - it's a fabulous way of gaining physical and mental health life-benefits. We strive to give you the skills to embrace the healing power of the ocean, and create a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where swimmers can come together to learn, grow, and have fun.
Husband & wife team Aly & Spence met whilst walking the UK Coast-to-Coast path in 2015. Sharing a passion for the outdoors, Aly's love of the sea and open-water swimming led to Aly Swims Cornwall being set up in Gorran Haven, Cornwall, where they now live.
Aly is a well-established sea and long-distance swimmer, having swam the English Channel and around the island of Jersey, both solo and as part of a relay team, her love of the water is infectious. Being an STA open water coach and Personal Trainer she has a talent for getting the absolute best out of her clients. She has also guided in Greece, taking people on exciting sea adventures, with coaching to ensure they got the best out of their swim holiday. 5th female out of the water in an international professional field for the Kalmar Ironman where she clocked 12hrs 10mins overall, this and other endurance races ensure she's had a good dose of some challenging events. Helpfully, she's also a Sports Massage Therapist so can help ease those achy muscles! Previously a Physical Education Officer in the RAF where she was a Parachute Jump Instructor, talented downhill ski racer, bob-sledder and media training officer, so has some tales to tell.
Spence was a Mountain Leader Guide and accomplished half-marathon runner before, after 29yrs in the RAF serving in an array of locations, a life-changing accident and diagnosis forced a change in direction. He's Powerboat Level 2 qualified and you may see him on the support craft, or meeting you on the beach with a hot chocolate.
